Home About Contract News

The University of California employs about 21,898 patient care technical employees who provide vital patient care support services at five medical centers, nine student health centers and numerous outpatient clinics throughout the UC system.

UC Health represents the fourth-largest health care delivery system in California. UC medical centers provide patient care services valued at nearly $7 billion annually, accounting for more than 3.9 million clinic visits and over 290,000 emergency room visits a year.

The university values its patient care employees and is working hard to negotiate a fair agreement with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), which represents these workers. UC is committed to bargaining in good faith to reach a comprehensive multi-year contract that fairly rewards patient care employees for their talent and skill, and is also financially sustainable over time.

The current contract for this bargaining unit is in effect through July 31, 2024 and there are no active negotiations taking place. Negotiations for the next contract will begin before the current contract expires.
