The University of California employs approximately 1,616 communications, marketing and sales professionals who contribute to UC’s mission by producing and sharing information about the University’s services, programs, priorities and mission. This includes managing the UC brand, supporting the user experience, and connecting with a wide variety of audiences through content, storytelling and outreach.

By coordinating strategy across platforms and topics, they help strengthen trust and highlight the university’s contributions at the state, national and global levels.

Individuals in the following titles are in this systemwide bargaining unit:

  • Acquisitions Editor
  • Communications Specialist
  • Digital Communications Specialist
  • Marketing Specialist
  • Media Communications Specialist
  • Program Representative
  • Publications Production Specialist
  • Sales Specialist
  • Visual Communications Specialist
  • Writer/Editor

This is a newly formed unit, and negotiations for the new contract began in May 2026.
