Home About Contract News

The University of California employs nearly 24,047 registered nurses who provide vital medical services at five academic health centers, 10 campus student health centers and numerous outpatient clinics throughout the UC system.

The university operates one of the nation’s largest health sciences and medical training programs. In FY24, UC academic health centers generated $18.1 billion in net patient service revenue. The system had more than 10.8 million outpatient visits and over 474,000 emergency visits.

All non-supervisory, non-managerial registered nurses are in this systemwide bargaining unit, which is represented by the California Nurses Association (CNA).

The current contract for this bargaining unit is in effect through October 31, 2025 and there are no active negotiations taking place. Negotiations for the next contract will begin before the current contract expires.
