SX — Service
American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)
The University of California employs about 11,429 service workers who provide essential custodial, transportation and other basic support services at all campuses and medical centers. Service employees work in various departments from housing and dining services to laboratories and mail rooms.
The systemwide unit is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
The university values its service employees and is working hard to negotiate a fair agreement with AFSCME. UC is committed to bargaining in good faith to reach a comprehensive multi-year contract that fairly compensates service employees, and is also financially sustainable over time.
UC and AFSCME are engaged in active negotiations for a new contract, and have been bargaining since January of 2024. The current contract for this bargaining unit expires on October 31, 2024.
