Clarification: The procedures set forth in this section for dismissals based on academic performance apply only to NSFs who are Continuing Appointees. A decline in evaluations or academic performance does not necessarily lead to dismissal. Departments are encouraged to review the performance of NSF on a regular basis prior to the formal review process. It is important to identify areas of concern early in the process and to enter into a dialogue with the NSF. This should be done prior to a formal merit review, a remediation proposal or a dismissal proceeding.
