The University of California works hard to build professional relations and negotiate fair agreements with the 15 unions that represent more than 115,172 of our employees. The university is committed to providing some of the most attractive compensation, benefits and opportunities available that make it an employer of choice.

You will find below details of current negotiations and existing employment contracts with each bargaining unit. Select your bargaining unit below for more information.

Retirement benefits

At its March 2016 meeting, the UC Board of Regents approved a new retirement program for future UC employees, as part of a broader effort to maintain the university’s excellence and sustain its long-term financial health. The UC Retirement Choice Program took effect on July 1, 2016 for eligible new employees.

Retirement benefits for union-represented employees are determined through the collective bargaining process. UC has reached agreements with several unions to accept the Retirement Choice Program as outlined by the Regents. UC will bargain in good faith with other unions. Until the bargaining process is complete, other unions’ members will be covered by the provisions in their existing labor contracts for retirement. Please refer to your collective bargaining agreement and appropriate retirement plan documents for details.
