Dear Colleague,

The university recently began negotiations with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) for a new contract for you and your professional librarian colleagues. We recognize and appreciate the expertise you bring to UC that allows us to maintain world-class academic, scientific and medical library facilities.

Our goal is to reach a fair, long-term deal, while carefully considering the university’s multiple budget priorities and long-term financial health.

Our commitment to you includes:

  • Pay that’s market-competitive: We know that market-competitive pay is critical to our ability to recruit and retain skilled staff.
  • Quality health care for you and your family: We offer a choice of several excellent and affordable health plans for you and your dependents.
  • Continued excellent retirement benefits: UC’s retirement benefits remain among the most generous in the market.
  • A long-term contract: We will negotiate for a comprehensive, multi-year contract to provide you and the university with predictability and stability.

We will continue to provide you with updates as negotiations proceed.

Thank you again for all you do for our community and to support UC’s teaching, research and public service mission.

Sincerely,

Dwaine B. Duckett
Vice President of Human Resources
