The University of California and the University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT) continued bargaining on September 24 at UC Davis as the parties worked toward a systemwide successor collective bargaining agreement. The Unit 18 faculty bargaining unit includes approximately 5,314 non-Senate faculty across the UC system.
The parties had a substantive one-day session that opened with testimony from Unit 18 faculty across several campuses about their work and experiences as UC instructors. The University presented proposals on Non-Discrimination and Parking. UC-AFT presented proposals on Instructional Workload; Health, Safety, and Emergency Conditions; Layoff, Reduction in Time, and Reemployment; and Instructional Support, along with a counterproposal on Holidays.
The University remains committed to reaching a fair, sustainable agreement that recognizes the important contributions of Unit 18 faculty, supports high-quality teaching and learning, and advances the University’s mission.
The parties will resume bargaining on October 8.
