Health Net announcement: What it means for members of UC Blue & Gold HMO and Postdoctoral Scholar Benefit Plans

Health Net has announced changes to its commercial health plan business in California that will affect most of its group plans effective March 1, 2027. These changes do not affect UC Blue & Gold HMO or Health Net-administered Postdoctoral Scholar Benefit Plans for the 2027 plan year. Health Net has confirmed that it will continue to administer these UC plans through 2027 and will not seek to renew its contract with UC for 2028 and beyond.

We understand that this news may raise questions for members enrolled in UC Blue & Gold HMO or in the Postdoctoral Scholar Benefit Plans administered by Health Net. The most important thing to know is that current plan options will continue through 2027, with Health Net as the plan administrator. Members should continue using their plans as usual.

UC continually evaluates healthcare options to support faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars and retirees, with careful attention to continuity of service, access to care, quality and affordability for members. UC will work carefully to support an orderly transition and minimize disruption for members.

You do not need to take any action now. UC will share updates as they become available and will provide clear information before you need to make any enrollment decisions for 2028.
