UC and UAW Reach Another Agreement as Bargaining Proceeds for the Communications, Marketing, and Sales Professionals (ComMaS) Unit

The University of California (UC) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) continued discussions on June 24 as the parties work toward a first contract covering approximately 1,600 Communications, Marketing, and Sales Professionals known as the ComMaS bargaining unit.

During last week’s bargaining session, the University passed a proposal on Layoff Effects. The Union passed a counterproposal on Layoff Effects and a package containing proposals covering Subcontracting and Wages. The parties reached an interim agreement on Layoff Effects — a positive sign of good faith bargaining and continued progress at the bargaining table.

The University of California values the contributions of employees in the UAW ComMaS bargaining unit, whose work helps advance UC’s mission through communications, marketing, outreach, audience engagement, and more. Serving in a wide range of professional roles across the University, they help inform and engage the public, support UC’s reputation, and communicate the University’s impact across California and beyond.

The parties are scheduled to resume bargaining on July 6.
