UC and FUPOA Continue Bargaining on a New Agreement for Non-Supervisory Police Officers

The University of California (UC) and the Federated University Police Officers’ Association (FUPOA) continued negotiations on May 26-27 for a new contract covering approximately 266 sworn, non-supervisory police officers. The existing contract for the Police Officers Unit (PA) is set to expire on June 30.

During last week’s two-day bargaining session, UC passed proposals covering Holidays, Hours of Work, Parking, and Uniform and Fitness Allowance. UC also passed an appendix on Parking Caps and a new Side Letter on Payroll Contact. FUPOA passed counter proposals on Arbitration, Holidays, Hours of Work, Wages, and Payroll Contact.

These negotiations are taking place as campus policing continues to evolve alongside the needs of the University community. UC police officers play a vital role in maintaining safe, welcoming, and supportive campus environments where teaching, learning, research, and patient care can thrive. Through their daily interactions with students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors, officers contribute not only to campus safety but also to community trust and engagement. The University recognizes and values these contributions as the parties work toward a balanced agreement that reflects a shared commitment to public service, institutional excellence, and responsible stewardship.

The parties will resume bargaining on June 10-11.
