The University of California and the University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT) continued bargaining on June 30 on a systemwide successor collective bargaining agreement for roughly 5,314 Unit 18 faculty across the UC system.
During the session, the University passed counterproposals on Ground Rules, a proposal on Summer Session, and a proposal to extend the contract, which expired on June 30. The Union passed counterproposals on Ground Rules and on the contract extension. The parties ultimately agreed to a short-term contract extension through July 16, 2026.
UC-AFT faculty play an important role in delivering instruction and supporting students across the institution, and UC is working toward a fair, sustainable agreement that supports high-quality instruction, advances the University’s academic mission, and promotes educational programs that foster student success.
The parties will resume bargaining on July 15-16.
