The University of California and the University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT) met in person on June 4 to continue negotiations on a systemwide successor collective bargaining agreement covering approximately 5,314 Unit 18 faculty across the UC system.
During the one-day bargaining session, the University presented proposals covering Medical Separation and Resignation. The Union presented a proposal on No Strikes/No Lockouts.
The parties also heard testimony from UC-AFT-represented employees on a range of topics, including technology, layoffs, language instruction, and pay scale concerns, as well as continued discussions regarding Ground Rules.
UC-AFT faculty are central to delivering instruction and supporting students across the institution, and UC is working toward a fair, sustainable agreement that supports high-quality instruction, strengthens the University’s academic mission, and promotes educational programs that foster student success.
The parties will continue bargaining on June 30.
