Bringing $1B in research funding to California

Since the 1960s, when engineers at UC Berkeley set up the first-ever lab for prototyping integrated circuits, our university has been a world leader in chip design and manufacturing. Now, we’ve leveraged our cutting-edge technology, innovation and research to help bring a new national headquarters for computer chip research and development to California.

Also in UC innovation: UC researchers recently revealed a material that can capture CO2 from ambient air; promising anti-inflammatory results from keto diets; and differences in how men and women process pain.

Open Enrollment ends November 22

Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to make sure you have the right benefits. With significant changes this year — including higher costs — it’s important to review your options on the Open Enrollment website. And, remember to set up your health or dependent care flexible spending account (FSA)! You must re-enroll every year.

Good news in benefits: UC is significantly expanding access to paid sick leave next year, starting January 1.

Moving forward together

In light of the election news and all that is going on in our world, it is important to remember our values as an institution and the positive impact of our mission of teaching, research, and public service.

Last week, I issued a joint statement with the leaders of the California State University and the California Community Colleges. The University of California stands alongside our higher education partners and will continue to support and protect all members of our communities.

California is a beacon of hope for many. We stand ready to support our state and its people as we move forward together.

Fiat Lux.
