While the Federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) ended on May 11, 2023, some medical plans are mandated to cover COVID-19 tests, vaccines, and therapeutics for six additional months, through Nov. 11, 2023, in accordance with the State of California’s Senate Bill (SB) 1473. Self-funded and Medicare plans are not required to comply.

Effective January 1, 2023, California Senate Bill 1162 (SB 1162) requires employers to disclose pay scales on all position postings and to current employees upon request. SB 1162 expands on the previously enacted California Assembly Bill 168 (AB 168). These laws apply to all academic, faculty, and staff recruitments and positions.

UC’s Pay for Family Care and Bonding (PFCB) program, introduced on July 1, 2021, as part of UC’s commitment to family-friendly policies, programs and benefits, is expanding. In 2023, the PFCB income replacement will increase from 70% to 100% of eligible earnings.

UC’s Open Enrollment for 2023 benefits begins on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 8 a.m., and ends on Friday, Nov. 18, at 5 p.m. UC will continue to offer the same benefit plans as this year for faculty and staff.
