Here are the terms and conditions that apply to the University of California’s 150th Anniversary Timeline Quiz promotion (the “Promotion”).

The sponsor of this Promotion is the University of California, Office of the President, 1111 Franklin St, Oakland, CA 94607 (“University of California” or “UC”).

By entering the Promotion, these terms and conditions apply to your entry. UCnet’s Terms of Use forms part of these terms and conditions. Participation in this Promotion constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions. These terms and conditions may change from time to time without notice.

To participate in the Promotion, you must provide your entry between Feb. 26, 2018, 10 a.m. Pacific time and Friday, Mar. 16, 2018, 5 p.m. Pacific time (“Promotion Period”).

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the State of California. The laws in some places don’t allow the University of California to run this Promotion, in which case the Promotion and these terms and conditions are void in those places. You can’t enter this Promotion if you (or your immediate family including parents, children, siblings, partner and grandparents, or roommates) are employed by the University of California, Office of the President and had direct involvement in the development of UC’s 150th Anniversary Timeline website or quiz. If you are under 18, you must have permission from your parents or legal guardian to enter.

Eligibility to participate

The Promotion is intended for current UC students, faculty and staff, and UC retirees. Anyone in one or more of these groups may participate. No purchase is necessary to enter.

Eligibility for prizes

The following rules apply to eligibility for prizes offered through the Promotion:

No purchase is necessary to enter or win. To be eligible to win a prize during the Promotion Period you will need to:

  1. Complete the 150th timeline quiz and earn a 100 percent score;
  2. Submit your entry for the Promotion with a valid, University of California email account’ and
  3. Be a current UC employee, student or retiree.

Ineligible participants: Current UC employees who are in a senior management position (for example, deans, provosts, or directors and above) or who were closely involved in the creation of the Promotion and its content (e.g., UCOP Communications personnel) may complete the quiz, but are not eligible for prizes.

Other terms

You can enter as many times as you like, but you will be awarded only one set of prizes, even if you submit multiple entries receiving 100 percent scores. Your entry is considered received at the time the University of California is notified of your submission. Incomplete and invalid entries will not be accepted. The University of California assumes no responsibility for errors that may occur in the transmission of the entrant’s entry.

Participants will be notified of their score upon completion of the quiz, and those entries earning 100 percent scores will be invited to submit an entry using a UC email address. Winners will be randomly selected. This Promotion is a competition of skill, not chance.

Selection of winners will take place the week of Mar. 19–23, 2018 at The University of California, Office of the President office at1111 Franklin St, Oakland CA 94607. The selection of winners is final.

The University of California reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who has engaged in: unlawful or improper conduct, conduct designed to jeopardize the fair conduct of the Promotion, conduct generally damaging to the reputation of the University of California, or any breach of these terms and conditions (as determined in the University of California’s sole discretion). The University of California is not responsible for any fraud, intellectual property infringement, or other misconduct on the part of the entrants. Should an entrant engage in fraud, infringement, or other misconduct of any nature, including but not limited to a violation of the official rules, such entrant shall be subject to immediate disqualification. The University of California reserves the right to terminate, modify or amend the contest at any time if the fairness, integrity, and or proper administration of the contest is jeopardized.

The University of California has the right to extend the dates of the Promotion, and we’ll provide notice if we do extend the dates. The University of California can also cancel or modify the Promotion if there are technical or administrative reasons beyond our reasonable control.

Total prize value is approximately USD $30.00. These prize values are accurate at the start of the Promotion. The prizes awarded to the winners will be a set of celebratory UC merchandise, including:

  • A tote bag
  • A t-shirt
  • A lapel pin
  • A set of postcards

Each entrant is responsible for monitoring his or her UC email account for notification or other communications related to this contest. No later than March 23, 2018, we’ll notify the winners by emailing the UC address included in the submission. The winner must respond and claim his/her prize by emailing us at ucnet@ucop.edu within 72 hours of us contacting the winner by email, or we will pick another winner. We’ll ask for any details required for delivering the prize with the winner by email.

The University of California will engage in reasonable efforts to contact the winners. If we can’t locate the winner via email communications, or if a prize winner hasn’t contacted us within 72 hours of our contact, another entry receiving a 100 percent score may be selected for the prize.

If you win, we may ask you to provide proof of identity, UC affiliation, residency and age. If you can’t provide, or refuse to provide suitable proof, then you may be disqualified, and we may choose another winner.

The University of California may use any personal information contained in your entry or submitted to us in connection with this Promotion and awarding the prize. By participating in this Promotion, you authorize the University of California to use your name, likeness, and biographical information in connection with this Promotion and awarding the prize.

After the prizes are awarded to all winners, we intend to identify all winners of this Promotion in a story about UC’s 150th Anniversary Timeline and this Promotion.

You can’t exchange any of the prizes for cash. We will use reasonable efforts to award the prizes as described above, but if we are unable to do that, we may substitute another prize of comparable value.

You’ll be responsible for all taxes, insurance and any other expenses, fees and costs connected with that prize that are not included in the prize description.

You’re also responsible for your use of the prize, including complying with any applicable terms and conditions of use, including any applicable conditions along with complying with all relevant laws, rules and regulations.

The University of California is not responsible for use of the prize which results in:

  1. Loss that was not reasonably foreseeable;
  2. Loss that was not caused by our negligence;
  3. Business losses suffered by non-consumers;
  4. Losses caused by factors which could reasonably be considered to be outside our control; and
  5. Any loss caused, or contributed to, by your breach of conditions of entry or your negligence.

By participating in this Promotion, you agree to release, to forever discharge, and to hold harmless the University of California and its officers, agents and employees from any and all claims and demands arising from your entry or participation in this Promotion — including but not limited to claims for violation of rights of publicity, invasion of privacy, libel, defamation, copyright infringement or trademark infringement.
