Update, July 18, 2017

If Secova notifies you that your family member’s coverage will be cancelled and you believe that the documents you already submitted should be sufficient to demonstrate your family member is eligible, you may appeal Secova’s decision. Please send a written statement of appeal, with documentation supporting your family member’s eligibility, to:

Systemwide HR Compliance
University of California, Office of the President
Care of: Jennifer Damico Murphy
1111 Franklin Street, 5307G
Oakland, CA 94607

The written statement must be received no later than September 10, 2017. You will be notified by mail whether your appeal has been granted or denied. Please note that late submissions could result in family members being de-enrolled. If your late appeal is approved your family members will be reinstated prospectively but may still require payment of missed premiums if applicable.

If you have not submitted any documents for the Recertification project and receive a notice of de-enrollment, please contact Secova immediately to begin the process. You can contact Secova at 888-926-5687 or (1-323-781-3921 for calls outside the U.S.) or visit the Secova verification website at verify.secova.com/ucfmer.

If you are enrolled in UC-sponsored health plans and you cover a spouse, domestic partner, grandchild or legal ward under your benefits, Secova, Inc., may contact you in the next few months as part of the Family Member Eligibility Recertification project. UC is verifying the continuing eligibility of these family members because of the possibility of changes over time due to divorce, separation or changes in tax status. This triennial project is only recertifying dependents who were originally verified between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2014.

Why UC is reverifying benefits eligibility

The university strives to balance the demands of escalating health care costs while maintaining high quality benefits for our members and their families. The Family Member Eligibility Recertification project is necessary to ensure that the university covers only those family members who continue to remain eligible for UC-sponsored health insurance.

UC is asking faculty and staff to verify current eligibility for the following family members enrolled in UC-sponsored coverage:

  • Spouses
  • Domestic partners
  • Grandchildren
  • Legal wards

You will NOT have to provide documentation to verify any other family members at this time.

UC is partnering with Secova Inc., our current administrator of Family Member Eligibility Verifications to assist us with this process. Secova has more than 24 years of experience administering family member eligibility verifications and is staffed with knowledgeable professionals who will offer you confidential support and resources throughout the recertification process.

What happens next

In early April, Secova will send verification packets to faculty and staff with instructions on how to submit your documentation. If you are contacted by Secova, you must submit your completed and signed verification form and other required documentation to Secova by June 1, 2017. If you have any questions, please contact Secova at the number provided in your packet.
