UC and UAW Reach Ten Tentative Agreements on BR/BX Contract Negotiations

After four consecutive days of negotiations for a new bargaining agreement for Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs) and Academic Student Employees (ASEs), the University of California and the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 4811 reached tentative agreements on ten contract articles last week.
During the four days of bargaining, UC and UAW both passed substantial proposals and were able to reach agreement across a variety of issues. Tentative agreements reached by the parties include articles that cover ASE Classifications, ASE Recognition, Discipline & Dismissal, Employment Files, Grievance & Arbitration, Non-Discrimination, Respectful Work Environment, and Union Security. In addition, the parties reached agreement on an Appendix for the Panel of Arbitrators and on a Side Letter that covers Legacy ASE Titles. Finally, the parties agreed to a one-month contract extension; the BR BX contracts now expire on January 31, 2026.
The next bargaining session is scheduled for Jan. 12.
