UC and UAW Continue Graduate Student Researchers and Academic Student Employees Contract Negotiations

The University of California met with United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 4811 on November 13 and November 18 regarding a new contract for Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs) and Academic Student Employees (ASEs).
November 13: UC passed proposals on Union Security, ASE Recognition, Required Training and Orientation, Union Access, Non-discrimination, and Respectful Work Environment. UC also submitted a side letter on Legacy Title Transition.
UAW passed proposals on Grievance and Arbitration, Immigration, Non-discrimination, Respectful Work Environment, and Wages. The union also submitted proposals regarding current contract language (CCL) on Waiver and Past Practice Not Covered by Agreement.
November 18: UC passed proposals on Employment Files, Discipline and Dismissal, ASE Workload and Grievance and Arbitration.UAW passed proposals on Respectful Work Environment, Non-discrimination, Defined Contribution and UC Retirement Plan, Appointment Security, Discipline and Dismissal and Employment Files.
The next bargaining session is scheduled for December 8.
