UC and Teamsters Begin Contract Negotiations for Clerical and Administrative Employees

Negotiations between the University of California (UC) and Teamsters Local 2010 officially commenced on September 16-17 for a new collective bargaining agreement affecting approximately 17,757 clerical and administrative support staff across the UC system. The existing CX unit contract expires on March 31, 2026.

The Teamsters Local 2010 has identified several bargaining priorities, including union rights and representation, workplace protections, scheduling provisions, layoffs and rehires, and competitive wages. UC’s priorities include supporting its mission, maintaining responsible stewardship of resources, and ensuring fair, sustainable agreements that strengthen the University’s role as a leading employer in California.

The talks begin at a pivotal moment for UC.  The University faces growing financial pressures, like many other higher education institutions, as well as increased federal scrutiny of its campuses and medical centers, which has created significant uncertainty for its workforce.

The two parties met on September 16 and opened discussions on a wide range of issues, including steward representation, grievance procedures, leave programs, holidays, labor-management meetings, no-strike provisions, and related workplace policies.

Negotiation sessions will take place over the coming months to reach an agreement before the contract expires in March 2026. The next sessions are scheduled for September 24-25.
