Jenny Kao

UC President Michael V. Drake, M.D. recently issued the following announcement to UC Office of the President leadership:

Dear Members of the President’s Advisory Group,

I am writing to inform you that I have approved the appointment of Jenny Kao as Vice President and Chief of Staff to the President.

This is a hard-earned promotion for Jenny, who has served in the president’s office for nearly 25 years and served me from the beginning of my presidency as Chief of Staff.  In the latter role, she has advised me on all matters involving the University, the Board of Regents, the Chancellors, and the administration of the Office of the President.  She has become a trusted confidante not just to me but to many of you as well.

While the full breadth of Jenny’s influence cannot be conveyed in a job description, this promotion recognizes the scope of her current and expanded responsibilities.  In addition to serving as my senior advisor, Jenny is responsible for directing and coordinating the work required to support systemwide strategic initiatives across the UC system.  While continuing to oversee the President’s Executive Office and the UCOP Ombuds Office, Jenny will be taking on significant new responsibility in directing on my behalf the work of the new Systemwide Office of Civil Rights

Jenny holds a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University.

Please join me in congratulating Jenny Kao on this richly deserved promotion.

Sincerely,

Michael V. Drake, M.D.
President
