As a leader in health care and environmental practices, UC is committed to creating a smoke- and tobacco-free environment for all students, employees, and visitors to our campuses, medical centers, and labs. In 2014, President Napolitano signed the Smoke and Tobacco Free Environment Policy to promote a healthier work and learning environment throughout UC.

“The University of California is deeply committed to promoting research, public health, and policy solutions to reduce the use of tobacco,” Napolitano said.

If you or someone you know wants to quit smoking, the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout, celebrated this year on Nov. 15, is a great time to start. UC has many resources to help our community members quit:

UC’s Smoke and Tobacco Free Policy also prohibits the use of marijuana, e-cigarettes, and other tobacco products at all locations. Because UC is 100 percent smoke- and tobacco-free, the California Youth Advocacy Network (CYAN) awarded every UC campus an A+ in its 2016 California Public College & University Smoke/Tobacco-Free Policy Report Card.

“UC was among the first of California’s higher education institutions to become smoke- and tobacco-free,” Napolitano said, “UC will continue to play an important role in our community, the state, and the world in promoting healthy work and learning environments.”
