Dear Colleague,

This week, UC begins negotiations with the United Auto Workers for a new contract for you and your colleagues.

Our goal during these negotiations is to reach a multi-year agreement that recognizes the significant contributions academic student employees make to undergraduate education at the university and the importance of financial support, while preserving UC’s long-term financial health.

This is our commitment to you:

  • Competitive pay: We routinely study compensation provided by comparable institutions of higher education to ensure we fairly compensate our academic student employees. We are committed to ensuring your pay stays competitive.
  • Quality benefits and family support: We offer quality health benefits, as well as a comprehensive array of family-friendly benefits including financial subsidies for childcare, childcare centers at every campus, up to six weeks of paid leave, pregnancy leave and other support for eligible student employees.
  • Good working conditions: Providing a safe workplace and good working conditions for all our employees is a priority for UC.

We’ll be working hard to negotiate a fair agreement as quickly as possible, and we will keep you informed of our progress with regular bargaining updates.

Thank you for all you do to support UC students, Senate Faculty, lecturers and other constituents we serve as part of our instructional mission.

Sincerely,

Dwaine B. Duckett
Vice President of Human Resources
