In November, the university presented its proposals for continued excellent health and retirement benefits for patient care technical employees.

    • Current employees would see no change in their benefits.
    • Future employees hired after a new contract is ratified would choose between a traditional pension or a 401(k)-style plan. Few employers offer this choice.

AFSCME is demanding wage increases that are more than double what other UC employees receive. The university is open to negotiating, but the union’s proposals must be reasonable and financially sustainable if both sides are to move closer to an agreement.
