UC is working diligently to advance contract negotiations with the goal of providing you and your colleagues with annual wage increases, quality health care and excellent retirement benefits that few employers can match.

To date, UC and the University Professionals and Technical Employees (UPTE) union have reached tentative agreement on 17 issues, including on workplace committees that provide a valuable channel for the university and union to discuss issues and concerns.

The current contract expires Oct. 31, 2017. UC offered to extend the contract, which UPTE declined. While we are disappointed our contract extension offer was not accepted, we remain committed to reaching a comprehensive, long-term contract for you.

UC’s comprehensive proposal included:

  • Quality health care: Excellent health benefits for you and your family at the same rates as other UC employees with similar salaries.
  • Excellent retirement benefits: All current employees will see no change in their pension benefits. Employees hired after a new contract is ratified would choose between a traditional pension plan and a 401(k)-style plan, whichever they feel is right for them. Offering future employees this choice will not harm the pension benefits of current employees. To learn more, please see the attached fact sheet.
  • Guaranteed wage increase: A step increase — 2 percent increase — per year for all eligible employees.
  • Long-term stability: A four-year contract that provides both employees and the university with stability through 2021.

The next bargaining session is scheduled for Nov. 6-7 at UC Davis Health. Thank you for the contributions you make every day at our medical centers and campus health centers.
