Dear Colleague,

This month, the university begins negotiating with UPTE over a new contract for you and your fellow healthcare professionals.

We appreciate the expertise and dedication you bring to our medical centers and campuses — and we aim to provide you with a contract that reflects that. Our goal is to reach a comprehensive, multi-year agreement that provides market-competitive pay and benefits as well as safe working conditions, while carefully balancing multiple budget priorities and the university’s long-term financial health.

This is our commitment to you:

  • Pay that’s market-competitive: We routinely conduct market studies, and we provide regular pay increases to make sure our salaries stay fair and competitive.
  • Quality health care for you and your family: We will continue to offer excellent, affordable health plans for you and your dependents.
  • Continued excellent retirement benefits: We offer a traditional pension that features a guaranteed payment to help you achieve a secure retirement. All current health care professionals will continue to participate in the university’s traditional pension plan.

UC’s objective for retirement benefits for future employees is to provide them with a choice between the traditional pension plan or a 401(k)-style plan, whichever fits their needs and preferences. Few employers offer this choice, or a traditional pension.

  • A long-term contract: We will negotiate for a comprehensive, multi-year contract to provide you and the university with predictability.

We’ll be sure to provide you with regular updates as negotiations get underway.

Thank you again for all you do for our patients, and to support UC’s public service mission.
