The University of California continued bargaining with the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 4811 on a new contract for Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs) and Academic Student Employees (ASEs).
UC is committed to ensuring fair and equitable contracts for academic student employees and graduate student researchers. Sustained federal funding cuts and financial pressures continue to challenge the university’s teaching and research missions. To strengthen and protect students, patients, and the entire university community, UC’s bargaining efforts center on collaboration and constructive solutions.
During the latest session, UC presented proposals on Respectful Work Environment, Non-Discrimination, Grievance & Arbitration, Defined Contribution and Retirement Plan, and Immigration. UAW passed proposals on Appointment Notification, ASE Classifications, Fee Remission, ASE Workload/GSR Workload, and Grievance & Arbitration.
The parties signed tentative agreements on Definitions and GSR Recognition.
The next bargaining session is on November 13.
