On November 5, UC continued negotiations with the California Nurses Association (CNA) following the official expiration of the registered nurses’ contract on October 31.

During the session, UC passed proposals on Performance Evaluation and Health and Safety. CNA passed proposals on Performance Evaluation, Job Posting, Hours of Work, Health and Safety, Holidays, Sick Leave, Leaves of Absence, Arbitration, Parking, Probationary Period, and New Technology. Additionally, the union maintained previous counterproposals on Unit Classifications, Per Diem, Non-discrimination, Management Rights, No Strikes, and Grievance and Arbitration.

This week, the parties reached two tentative agreements (TAs) on Performance Evaluation and Health and Safety.

There was meaningful discussion during the session regarding issues that the University understands are important to CNA, including floating and job postings. UC wants to ensure that its proposal on floating is clear. This language is a definition intended to provide clarity, not change, alongside the current contract language. There is no proposal to increase mandatory floating.

The next sessions with CNA are scheduled for November 19-20.
