The University of California is pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with UC-AFT on a contract for Professional Librarians. The union membership voted to ratify the agreement on September 30, 2024.

This agreement represents the culmination of twenty-one bargaining sessions over nearly eleven months. UC wishes to thank UC-AFT union representatives for their dedication to this process. This is the spirit of listening and compromise that drives successful negotiations. The following list outlines the key provisions of the contract.

  • Wage increases: The salary scales for represented and non-represented librarians will be aligned in the contract’s first year. After that, salaries will increase annually by 3.5 percent, 3.5 percent, 3 percent, and 3 percent. In addition, upon ratification of the contract, all eligible members will receive a one-time payment of $2,000.
  • Professional development funds: Each librarian is entitled to a minimum of $1,250 annually for professional development.
  • Definitions: Due to upcoming changes to APM-360, the UC-AFT has agreed to keep the current contract language for definitions until changes are issued. At that point, the parties will negotiate the updated definitions into the contract
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging: Positive contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging can be recognized through the merit and promotion process
  • Flexible Work Arrangement: New language expands upon, clarifies, and adds consistency to flexible work arrangements, including remote work across the University.
  • Duration: The new contract will expire on January 1, 2029.

Thank you again for your invaluable contributions to the University’s mission, which significantly benefit our students, faculty, and academic community. Your commitment and expertise are truly appreciated.
