University of California Health (UCH), which comprises the UC health system and is distinct from Systemwide Human Resources, will distribute an anonymous and confidential survey to a random selection of non-represented and represented employees across UC locations starting. There will be two rounds of survey invitations — the first in late November and the second in early December (both rounds will happen after Open Enrollment).

If you are selected and agree to participate, your feedback will offer important insights into the medical care needs and experiences of UC faculty and staff. Participation is completely voluntary and your employment, benefits or other standing at the University of California will not be impacted in any way by your participation or lack of participation in this survey.

Important information about this research

  • Email invitations to participate in the survey will be sent in late November and in early December (after Open Enrollment ends) from the email address: ucmedicalplanresearch@ucop.edu.
  • This is a legitimate research effort sponsored by the UCH Self-Funded Health Plans team under the direction of Laura Tauber, Executive Director. This team is distinct from Systemwide Human Resources.
  • This survey is being conducted by Greenwald Research, a third-party research firm that adheres to strict standards for privacy and quality. If you have any questions about Greenwald Research, please contact their Chief Research Officer at 1-800-458-4516, extension 113. • If you have questions about this survey and would like a response from UC, please email ucmedicalplanresearch@ucop.edu.
  • All responses will be kept anonymous and confidential. Results will be reported in combination with others only. UC will not have access to your survey responses in connection with any personal information that could identify you.
  • Approximately 43,000 University of California employees who are currently enrolled in a UC medical insurance plan for the 2021 plan year through UC will be randomly selected to receive an invitation to take this survey.
  • The survey should take most UC employees 15 to 20 minutes to complete, though some may find it takes longer. It includes questions about your experience with your medical insurance plan provided by UC and your use of various medical care services and providers. There are also some questions about your attitudes and general background. Each question is voluntary and options are provided if you do not feel comfortable answering particular questions.
  • Results will not be published and are for quality improvement and market research only.

A small number of survey participants will be contacted via email during Q1 of 2022 and invited to participate in an interview to learn more about their experience with their UC health plan. Participants will be invited to participate in either a one-on-one phone interview or a virtual focus group. The email invitations will come from ‘University of California Health ucmedicalplanresearch@ucop.edu’ and participants will be compensated for their time.
