On Thursday, July 9, at 12 p.m. (PT), join President Milliken for a special event — The American Experiment at 250: History, Higher Education, and the Road Ahead  featuring Beverly Gage, Ph.D., John Lewis Gaddis Professor of History at Yale University. The virtual event will take place over Zoom.

A leading scholar of 20th-century U.S. history, Dr. Gage is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “G-Man: J. Edgar Hoover and the Making of the American Century.” Her new book, “This Land is Your Land: A Road Trip through U.S. History,” explores 250 years of American history through a cross-country journey from Philadelphia’s Revolution-era landmarks to Disneyland and the California dream.

Together, President Milliken and Dr. Gage will explore the institutions, ideas, and debates that have shaped American life — and the important role higher education has played in that story. Their conversation will also consider how colleges and universities can continue to build public trust, strengthen democratic participation, and prepare the next generation.

All members of the UC community are encouraged to attend this timely conversation about history, trust, and the enduring promise of public higher education.
