As medical offices reopen, the California Medical Association has provided best practices to ensure the safety of patients and medical personnel. This includes guidance on training staff in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to limit transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

UC Systemwide Human Resources has reached out to UC medical, dental and vision plans to confirm that members are not responsible for the cost of recommended PPE when they visit providers in the plans’ networks. If you are billed a fee specifically for PPE by a network provider, please contact your plan’s customer service.

UC’s plans cannot prevent out-of-network providers from charging for PPE. If you seek care from non-network providers, you are responsible for all fees charged.

Please note that gloves and masks purchased for personal use are not considered eligible expenses under the Health FSA at this time.
