UC and UAW Reach Four More Agreements on RPSP and SSAP Bargaining Negotiations

The United Auto Workers (UAW) and the University of California continued bargaining last week (Feb 2-4) on initial contracts for the Student Services and Advising Professionals (SSAP) and the Research and Public Service Professionals (RPSP) bargaining units. Both new contracts are being negotiated at the same bargaining table.
During the three days of bargaining, UC and UAW passed proposals on Discipline and Dismissal, Grievance and Arbitration, Out of Classification Assignment, Probationary Period, Union Access and Rights, Union Security, and Workload/Hours of Work. The parties reached tentative agreements on four articles, including Discipline and Dismissal, Grievance and Arbitration, Union Access and Rights, and Union Security. UAW and the University have now reached 20 tentative agreements, a positive sign of progress and collaboration.
UC was informed in January that UAW would hold a strike authorization vote this month. We continue to be encouraged by the progress we are making at the bargaining table, and we strongly object to UAW’s characterization that the University is bargaining in bad faith or acting unlawfully. The Union’s strike authorization vote at this stage is unnecessary and risks shifting focus from the meaningful progress being made at the bargaining table. We remain committed to complying with all legal obligations, negotiating in good faith, and reaching a fair and timely agreement. Read our full statement here.
The UC and the UAW are actively discussing scheduling for the next bargaining session in February.
