The University of California and the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR-SEIU) continued negotiations on April 1 for the first systemwide contract covering approximately 6,300 Medical Residents and Fellows.

During the latest one-day bargaining session, UC passed proposals covering Health and Safety, Resident Lounges and Call Rooms, University Educational Access, and a Lead Work Group Side Letter. The Union passed counterproposals on Health and Safety, Resident Lounges and Call Rooms, University Educational Access, and the Lead Work Group Side Letter.

The University looks forward to reaching a mutually beneficial agreement with CIR-SEIU as we transition from multiple local contracts to a single systemwide framework that aligns diverse practices, priorities, and existing agreements into a single cohesive structure. The current, location-based contracts for Medical Residents expire on June 30, 2026.
