UC and the Federated University Police Officers’ Association (FUPOA) Initiate Contract Negotiations for Non-Supervisory Police Officers

The University of California (UC) and the Federated University Police Officers’ Association (FUPOA) officially commenced negotiations on February 17-18 for a new successor bargaining agreement affecting roughly 266 sworn non-supervisory police officers across the system. The existing contract for the Police Officers Unit (PA) is set to expire on June 30.  Read UC’s Press Release on the commencement of bargaining here.    

During last week’s bargaining session, FUPOA passed proposals on articles for Holidays, Parking, Hours of Work, and Shift Differential. FUPOA also passed a proposal for a new article for leave for members of the FUPOA board, a proposal outlining the process for payroll corrections, and a revised Longevity proposal. The University submitted proposals on articles for Arbitration, Grievance, and Non-Discrimination.  

Contract negotiations take place against a backdrop of broad institutional priorities and evolving public safety dynamics. As a public research university system, UC aims to reach agreements that help attract and retain qualified employees while ensuring fairness across employee groups and responsible use of public funds.    

UC values the role campus police officers play in ensuring safe, inclusive, and secure environments for students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors. We look forward to collaborating with FUPOA-PA and engaging in productive, respectful negotiations that reflect our shared mission of public service, academic excellence, and institutional stewardship.   

The parties are scheduled to continue bargaining March 25-26.
