UC Continues Systemwide Medical Resident Contract Negotiations with CIR-SEIU

The University of California and the Committee of Interns and Residents/SEIU (CIR-SEIU) continued to negotiate a systemwide contract for medical residents on October 9.
This week, UC presented proposals on arbitration, liability and malpractice insurance, waiver, management and academic rights, payroll deductions, language on program closures, grievance procedures, health and safety, and health benefits.
UC received seven counterproposals from the CIR-SEIU regarding labor management meetings, electronic devices, moonlighting, housing allowance, health and safety, wages, and duration, as well as an initial proposal on fatigue mitigation. UC and the union have committed to ensuring effective implementation of this new contract, including provisions that advance their respective interests. The next session is scheduled for Monday, October 27.
