The University of California and the United Auto Workers (UAW) continued negotiations on October 1 to establish an initial contract for the Student Services and Advising Professionals (SSAP) unit.

UC Student Services and Advising Professionals are essential to the academic and personal success of our students. We recognize and value their contributions and remain committed to bargaining in good faith, despite ongoing financial pressures, to reach a fair, sustainable agreement. Collaboration is key to meeting these challenges. By working together, UAW and UC can develop balanced solutions that support both the institution’s mission and the well-being of its employees.

During the October 1 session, the UC passed proposals related to discipline and dismissal, holidays, labor-management meetings, performance evaluation and personnel files. The union passed a grievance and arbitration proposal and submitted a package proposal addressing nondiscrimination and respectful work environment.

The parties reached tentative agreements on personnel files and the panel of arbitrators.

The next bargaining session is scheduled for October 15.
