The University of California and the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR-SEIU) continued negotiations on Feb. 11-12 for the first systemwide contract covering approximately 6,300 Medical Residents and Fellows.

During the two-day bargaining session, the University passed proposals and counter proposals addressing Commitment to Inclusivity, Holidays, Health and Safety, Lactation Accommodation, Labor Management Meetings, Liability Insurance/Malpractice Insurance, Payroll Deduction, Personal Time Off, Resident Lounges & Call Rooms, Union Access & Rights, Waiver, and Sick Leave.

The Union passed a counter side letter on Immigration and a series of responses to UC counter proposals covering Arbitration, Commitment to Inclusivity, Health & Safety, Holidays, Labor Management Meetings, Lactation Accommodation, Liability Insurance/Malpractice Insurance, Management & Academic Rights, Nondiscrimination in Employment, Payroll Deduction, Personal Time Off, Resident Lounges & Call Rooms, Sick Leave, Union Access and Rights, and Waiver.

The parties achieved four Tentative Agreements on Commitment to Inclusivity, Liability / Malpractice Insurance, Grievance Procedure, and Arbitration.

Medical Residents play a crucial clinical role in advancing UC’s work and contributing to the provision of patient care, and UC will continue to work with CIR-SEIU to reach a mutually beneficial contract for these valued employees.

The next bargaining session is scheduled to take place in-person March 3 & 4 at UCSF.
