Current goals/areas of focus

The first recognized staff and faculty affinity organization at UC Merced, the SFCA focuses on advocacy, healing and growth. We provide opportunities for staff and faculty members to develop a sense of community and strengthen professional and social networks. Our goal is to empower staff and faculty to engage in conversations about campus climate and to foster professional development.

Impact

Since its founding, SFCA has received two campus Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Grants in support of building outreach and professional development opportunities for staff and faculty of color. SFCA members meet annually with the Chancellor’s Office to review campus climate challenges and make recommendations. We are also consulted regarding critical campus search committee appointments.

SFCA members are proud to work as a unified organization focusing on the growth and development of both staff and faculty of color on campus. Being able to advocate collectively on priority issues, such as increasing professional development opportunities and diversifying faculty hires, benefits the campus community at large.

Each semester, we host professional leadership interviews that highlight staff and faculty leaders from across the UC system. We also sponsor annual fundraising events to purchase caps and gowns for graduating students in need.
