Glenda Humiston, Maite Arce and Carlos Suarez are among the speakers at the UC ANR Latinx & Friends employee resource group Hispanic Heritage Month events this fall.

The UC ANR Latinx & Friends employee resource group invites all UCOP colleagues to join them in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15). Focused on the theme “State of Latinos: Looking Into the Future,” these events will offer a unique opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the invaluable contributions of the Latino community to agriculture, education and broader society.

The State of Latinos in Agriculture
Sept. 13, 1 – 2:30 p.m. (PT)
Glenda Humiston, vice president of UC ANR, will open our first session, which will focus on the vital role Latinos play in agriculture. Carlos Suarez, state conservationist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will provide an in-depth look at the state of Latinos in agriculture, highlighting Latino producers and farmworkers.

The State of the Latino Community

In our second virtual session, Brent Hales, associate vice president for Research and Cooperative Extension, will lead a conversation celebrating the contributions of UC ANR Latino professionals. Maite Arce, president and chief executive officer of the Hispanic Access Foundation will address the state of the Latino community, including their economic impact and ongoing challenges.

Education and Latinos – The Future

Our third webinar will be introduced by Tu Tran, associate vice president for Business Operations at UC ANR. Then, inspiring author and educator Erica Alfaro will share her journey of overcoming adversity through education and discuss the future of education for Latino students.
