UC President James B. Milliken will speak at the prestigious Commonwealth Club World Affairs of California on Thursday, Jan. 29.
In a conversation moderated by ABC7 News Bay Area Anchor Kristen Sze, President Milliken will discuss the future of higher education, public investment in research, and the role universities play in driving innovation and social mobility. He will reflect on recent Nobel Prize wins by UC-affiliated scientists as evidence of the university’s research strength, while addressing growing challenges posed by funding cuts and restrictive immigration policies. He will also share his priorities for the year ahead and for advancing UC’s mission at a pivotal moment for higher education.
Founded as the Commonwealth Club of California in 1903, the Club has hosted an array of cultural and political luminaries over its 123-year history, including 18 U.S. presidents, three secretaries of state, prominent civil rights leaders, journalists, Hollywood celebrities, and trailblazing executives.
You can find more information about the event on the registration page. Tickets are $25 for the in-person San Francisco event and $10 for the livestreamed version. Following the event, a recording will be made available free of charge to the UC community on UCnet.
