On March 9 and 10, 2026, you’re invited to attend the next UC Systemwide Academic Congress — Where Do We Go from Here? Mathematics Preparation and STEM Pathways at a Crossroads.

This free event, open to all UC community members via Zoom, will bring together distinguished public figures, leading researchers and educators from UC and beyond to discuss innovative and inclusive approaches to support student success and strengthen STEM pathways across the system.

This event was inspired by a recent report issued by UC’s systemwide Institutional Research office on chemistry, math and the future of STEM at UC, which revealed that at UC and other universities, introductory chemistry and math courses that are intended to be “gateway” STEM courses, can actually be barriers to STEM career pathways.
