Cheryl Love wins national diversity award

Cheryl A. Love, Ph.D., arts, humanities, education and public policy career specialist at UC Riverside, has received the 2024 Diversity Initiative Award from the National Career Development Association (NCDA).

This award — selected by NCDA’s Awards Committee in collaboration with a representative from NCDA’s Diversity Initiatives and Cultural Inclusion Committee — promotes and recognizes an individual or team who has demonstrated a high degree of cultural responsiveness within career-related activities.

Cheryl Love

Cheryl has more than 40 years of experience as a counselor and teacher. As part of her current role, she serves as a liaison to African Student Programs, the Black Student Success Initiative, Basic Needs and the Kessler Scholar Program. 

She is a member of UC Riverside’s Black Faculty and Staff Association; a member of NCDA, former co-chair of the NCDA Diversity Initiatives and Cultural Inclusion Committee, and member of the 2023 and 2024 Conference Planning Committees; a past president of the California Career Development Association (CCDA), 2023-24; a member of 023-24; a member of the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers and its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee; and a board member and vice president of Enhearten, an organization working to develop unseen leaders in the United States and internationally.   

She has a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies, a master’s degree in counseling, and a multiple-subject teaching credential and pupil personnel service credential from California State University, Fullerton. She received her doctorate in educational psychology with an emphasis in counseling from UCLA. 

Cheryl was nominated for this recognition by Heather Zeng, Ph.D., president of the CCDA. She will receive the award at the NCDA Global Conference in San Diego in late June.
