UC and UPTE continue negotiations for healthcare professionals, technical employees, and researchers on Sept 10-11

The University of California and the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE) continued contract negotiations on September 10-11 for healthcare professionals, technical employees, and researchers.

During the sessions, UC received several UPTE proposals and counterproposals. UC submitted counterproposals on leave of absence parameters for all three UPTE units, covering benefits while on leave, FML entitlement tracking, the duration of leave, and expanded definitions of eligible family members. The University also proposed revisions to language about payroll deductions for union dues.

Part of UC’s commitment to productive negotiations is actively addressing union concerns, thoroughly evaluating UPTE proposals and counterproposals, and informing you about the negotiation process and our actions.

Throughout the negotiation process, the University presents proposals that are not intended as a mere “starting point” but rather as fair offers that recognize the contributions of UPTE-represented employees. The parties will hold individual bargaining caucus sessions on September 19-20, and the next joint bargaining sessions are scheduled for October 3-4.
