Bargaining update for lecturers/Unit 18 members

Dear Colleague:

I am writing to inform you that last Friday, October 15, the UC-AFT informed the University that it would like to return to the bargaining table to discuss the University’s comprehensive package proposal that we presented to the Union on October 11th. UC has agreed to a meeting and a bargaining session is scheduled for Friday, October 22.

The University looks forward to continuing its good faith discussions and efforts to reach an agreement with the Union. We believe our proposal recognizes the critical role you play in educating our students, and as I highlighted in my October 12th letter to you last week, includes substantial enhancements on the key issues of Lecturer compensation, job stability and workload. We believe this is an excellent offer, which is still on the table, and responds to the concerns the Union has raised on your behalf. In addition to the highlights I provided in last week’s letter, the Union can also provide you additional details about our proposal.

We believe that you and your colleagues deserve to have a multi-year contract that offers guaranteed pay increases and increased job stability as detailed in our proposal.

You can be assured that we remain committed to continuing to work in good faith with the UC-AFT to reach an agreement, and we will keep you informed about our efforts.

Kind Regards,

Letitia Silas
