Current goals/areas of focus

The African American Faculty and Staff Association (AAFSA) is here to be a voice for African-American faculty, staff and students, and to ensure that the university is a great place to work for everyone. We focus on community engagement, career development and raising awareness of issues of importance to our community. We recently kicked off a year-long partnership with the UC Davis Cancer Center on a Lung Cancer Screening Awareness Program.

Notable achievements

  • Has supported two Oak Park preschools for more than 20 years through a “Sponsor a Child Penny Drive”
  • Funds an annual staff scholarship through UC Davis Staff Assembly
  • Is an inaugural sponsor of the Black Women’s Health and Wellness Conference — now in its third year
  • Has created and sustained annual Black History Month programming — download a flyer of this year’s events!

How has participating in UC Davis Health AAFSA impacted you?

My participation with the UC Davis Health African American Faculty and Staff Association has given me an opportunity to engage and support faculty, staff, students and the community — which for me is integral to having a rewarding career. From a career perspective it has given me the opportunity to grow in my strategic planning, mentoring and leadership skillsets. Being on the Executive Board has opened doors for me to interact with university leadership to ensure that our concerns are presented and supported.
