Navigating racism in career advancement

Every month, the UC Alumni Career Network brings together UC alumni and community members for real-world, pertinent advice on some of the trickiest challenges that today’s professionals face.

This month’s webinar, taking place April 19 from 12-1 p.m. (PT), will focus on navigating racism in career advancement: From racial microaggressions in the workplace to white-centric organizational culture, structural racism can serve as barriers to the career advancement of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) professionals.

Learn how to acknowledge and address racist barriers, and learn strategies for building a trusted network to support your career advancement.

President Michael V. Drake, M.D. will moderate the event. The panelists are:

  • Linda Barreto, J.D. (‘08, UC Merced), Attorney, Professor of Law and Director of the New American Legal Clinic, San Joaquin College of Law
  • Kamau Bobb, Ph.D. (’94, MS ’97, UC Berkeley), Global Lead for Diversity Strategy and Research, Google and Senior Director, Constellations Center for Equity in Computing, Georgia Tech
  • D’Artagnan Scorza (‘01, Ph.D. ’13, UCLA), Executive Director of Racial Equity, County of Los Angeles, Chief Executive Office

Please note that this webinar is an affinity space specifically designed for BIPOC alumni, staff and allies. To create a safe space for sensitive conversations, it will not be recorded. Please submit questions for the panel during registration, as Q&A will not be turned on for this event.
