Series Concept

Involves psychological evaluation, diagnosis, counseling, psychotherapy and crisis intervention with individuals and groups across a broad spectrum of developmental and psychological concerns that interfere with effective academic and personal functioning. Develops psycho-educational programs. Also performs one of more of the following functions: Uses and interprets educational, vocational and psychological tests; provides clinical supervision of professional graduate-level trainees. Licensed as a Psychologist in California.

Class Concepts

Counseling Psychologist 3

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Performs diagnosis and psychotherapy on a full range of cases that are not pre-screened.

Professionally responsible for the soundness and validity of recommendations and services, but is expected to seek advice from senior specialists on unusual or uniquely complex client responses or on problems outside their area of expertise.

Gathers, analyzes, prepares, summarizes and monitors the status and progress of individual cases and projects and may participate in the training of lower-level professionals and paraprofessionals.

Implements related business processes.

Functions as a resource and may provide clinical guidance and oversight to lower level professional staff.

Counseling Psychologist 2

Professional who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments / projects / tasks of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.

Uses professional concepts. Applies campus policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Under general supervision, performs diagnosis, psychotherapy and evaluation of cases with limited to moderate complexity on cases that are not pre-screened.

Receives regular feedback on clinical techniques employed on assigned cases.

Under clinical supervision and in collaboration with other counseling psychologists, receives advice on unusual or uniquely complex client responses or on problems outside their area of expertise.

Gathers, analyzes and monitors the status and progress of individual cases and projects.

Obtains guidance on complex psychotherapy cases.

Minimum Qualifications

Counseling Psychologist 3

Doctorate in clinical psychology or related area of psychology.

Current, valid license in California as a psychologist. Out-of-state licensed psychologists have 180 days to complete licensure requirements in the State of California.

Thorough knowledge associated with providing evaluation, diagnosis and psychotherapy services.

Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct.

Thorough knowledge of diagnostic / psychological testing methodologies.

Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Thorough skills associated with conducting complex diagnosis, problem-solving and critical-thinking.

Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client group, members of the medical staff and faculty.

Ability to conduct complex analysis and develop and present recommendations and course of treatment.

Knowledge of electronic / medical records systems.

Must be computer literate.

Counseling Psychologist 2

Doctorate in clinical psychology or related area of psychology.

Current, valid license in California as a psychologist. Out-of-state licensed psychologists have 180 days to complete licensure requirements in the State of California.

Working knowledge associated with providing evaluation, diagnosis and psychotherapy services to patients.

Working knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct.

Working functional knowledge of diagnostic / psychological testing methodologies.

Working knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession.

Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Skills to independently provide diagnosis, problem-solving, conducting analysis and critical thinking.

Ability to work in a collaborative manner with diverse client group, medical staff personnel and faculty.

Ability to identify when to escalate issues and situations to more senior level Counseling Psychologists.

Knowledge of electronic / medical records systems.

Must be computer literate.
