Under direction of the Director of Student Health and/or Counseling Services and/or Medical Director, provides general and specialty health care to adolescent and adult patients, including assessing and treating a wide variety of conditions, ailments and injuries. Diagnoses, manages and treats patients. Refers patients with more serious conditions to other specialists for more complex care or other health care facilities for more intensive care. Licensure required.

Custom Scope

Evaluates and treats patients coming into the Student Health Clinics. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced physician with a full understanding of professional practices. Independently performs the full range of physician duties. May receive medical supervision or guidance for difficult or complex cases.

Evaluates and treats patients coming into the Student Health Clinics and/or Counseling Services Center. Independently performs full range of physician duties. Applies advanced professional physician concepts to perform highly difficult general medical or surgical work. Provides consultation on problem or difficult cases. Mentors and oversees work of assigned personnel.

Evaluates and treats patients coming into the Student Health Clinics and/or Counseling Services Center. Performs specialized procedures. For example, Psychiatrists assess and treat mental illnesses through a combination of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and medication. Consults with other physicians on difficult or specialized cases requiring specialized medical knowledge and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Applying professional physician concepts, examines and diagnoses patients, prescribes and administers medical treatments, advises patients on how to use medications, performs select procedures; administers anesthesia, and performs other medical functions, as authorized. Orders examinations, analyses, X-rays, special diets, and writes prescriptions. Reviews reports, supervises trainees and provides consultation to mid-level practitioners. Serves as resource and provides medical guidance to nurses and other members of clinical staff. Attends and participates in staff conferences. Adapts to changing paradigms in the delivery of comprehensive, high quality, highly accessible, cost-effective care to the campus patient population. Demonstrates exceptional communication skills and professionalism with patients and clinical team members.

Applying advanced professional physician concepts, independently performs full range of physician duties and provides direct patient care for difficult, acute or chronic diseases or disorders. Responsible for providing consultation or clinical case management as needed. Consults on more difficult cases to review clinical records and determine if appropriate treatment is being given. Performs audits of completed clinical work. May serve as chair of major committee such as quality improvement, peer review, etc. Adapts to changing paradigms in the delivery of comprehensive, high quality, highly accessible, cost-effective care to the campus patient population. Demonstrates exceptional communication skills and professionalism with patients and clinical team members.

Performs procedures associated with area of specialization (for example, surgery, OB/GYN, dermatology, sports medicine, occupational health, psychiatry). Sees primary care patients requiring a higher degree of subject matter expertise or primarily sees patients in a consultative basis in area of specialty. Performs surgical procedures; providing pre- and post-surgical care. May present at formal educational conferences or informal case managment conferences on area of specialization. Collaborates with and advises other physicians and professional staff to ensure quality of care.

Adapts to changing paradigms in the delivery of comprehensive, high quality, highly accessible, cost-effective care to the campus patient population. Demonstrates exceptional communication skills and professionalism with patients and clinical team members.

Education

Requires Medical License; Board Certified preferred at this level. Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California to be verified by the California Medical Board.
