Under the supervision of a licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist incumbents perform a variety of specialized techniques in a Blood Bank in a training capacity; participate in a formal program of work and instruction; and perform other related duties as required.
Incumbents typically perform cross matching, antibody identification, histo-compatibility testing, plasmapheresis techniques and commercial production and quality control of blood bank reagents.
Incumbents may undertake difficult, non-routine projects to gain experience in research conditions; and may participate in field trips and lectures at American Red Cross facilities and selected hospitals.
The Blood Bank Trainee class is distinguished from the Clinical Laboratory Technologist Apprentice class in that Blood Bank Trainees perform specialized advanced clinical laboratory techniques in a training capacity.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Clinical Laboratory Technologist license issued by the State of California; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
